Design & Technology
At Mayplace, we recognise that pupils are living in a rapidly changing world. We believe our Design and Technology curriculum stimulates curiosity and allows children to take risks in a safe and supportive environment. Our children will be provided with opportunities to evaluate and reflect on past and present technology as well as key events and individuals in relation to design and technology.
We believe our curriculum is designed to engage and challenge all pupils. It also allows our children to solve problems, both as individuals and as part of a team. At Mayplace, we actively encourage our pupils to use their creativity to design, make and evaluate products that solve relatable problems. We encourage our children to carefully consider the purpose of the task and ensure that both the design brief and design criteria are met. The children are taught to combine their designing and making skills with taught technical knowledge in order to develop a solution to a given problem or question. These will in turn help to prepare our children with the skills they require to use technology that has not yet been invented and jobs that do not currently exist.
Our design and technology curriculum allows pupils to transfer and further develop skills from a number of different curriculum areas, particularly maths, science art and oracy. By embedding the Global Goals into our curriculum, we are ensuring that our children will be motivated to build a more sustainable future. It will also equip our pupils with the skills they require to become resourceful and enterprising citizens of the future.
