Over the past two years we have been developing our new Green Curriculum. One of the aims is for our children to have a greater understanding of the environment and ecological issues and encourage children to connect with the outside. There’s no more authentic way for pupils to learn about global issues than by working with their peers in another country.

You may be aware that we have been working together on a whole school initiative with the British Council, to take part in an innovative project called ‘Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning.’ With their support we have been successful in establishing a partnership with a school in Ghana.

Initially we are hoping that our Year Five classes will be able to work on a collaborative outdoor project to explore Zero Hunger, Zero Waste’ (two of the Global Goals for Sustainability) by making connections in the community and through activities such as planting, growing, recycling and creating and cooking recipes from their produce. Our partner school in Ghana will work on a similar project and the children will share ideas and outcomes through social media and online platforms in school.

The aims of #Connecting Classrooms, Connecting Communities, will be to promote the extensive personal development of all pupils and provide access to a wide, rich set of experiences. We hope that the children will be able to think about how global issues fit into their own lives and how all children should have a voice.

Any parental support such as gardening advice, help in constructing raised beds, and resources such as pallets, recycled wood, compost, gardening tools or seeds would be extremely welcome.
