Mayplace Community Food Bank
Following on from the campaign lead by Marcus Rashford, we are delighted to say that we will now be able to provide food vouchers over the Christmas Holidays for our children who are entitled to Free School Meals.
We recognise though that Christmas can be a difficult time for many of our Mayplace families therefore, we would like to start our own Mayplace Community Food Bank where you can donate non-perishable food items such as pasta, tinned food, sauces and cereal and toiletries including soap, shampoo and toothpaste. It would be lovely if you could also donate any special Christmassy treats too. We can then create parcels and distribute this to our families who need it during these difficult times.
There will be a collection box by the Oak Room where you can drop your donation as you leave the one-way system from dropping your child off at school. Any size donations are welcome and every tin counts towards supporting our community.
You may have also seen the new Marcus Rashford initiative which is supporting children’s reading. At Mayplace we want to ensure that children from families with financial struggles still have the same opportunity as others to have books of their own. We would therefore like to ask you to donate a new book to the school which we will wrap up and give to the parents of our children entitled to Free School Meals to open on Christmas Day.
We will place a book donation box out too in the same place as the food box.
I know that we have families in our community who struggle at Christmas but are not entitled to Free School Meals. If you feel that you would benefit from a parcel, please contact Christmas@mayplace.bexley.sch.uk. This email account will only be accessible by myself and Miss Johnson and we want you to know that any messages will be treated in strictest confidence. In addition, we will always be discrete about how we deliver the parcel / book to you.
Thank you in advance for your support.
