Personal Development at Mayplace
At Mayplace, we believe that personal development is the foundation to a child's holistic growth and success. Our curriculum for personal development is designed to nurture each child's social, emotional, moral, and physical well-being, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Our Intentions
By focusing on these intentions, we aim to empower our students to become confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals who are prepared to face the opportunities and challenges of the future with resilience and integrity
Promoting Self-Awareness and Emotional Literacy: We aim to help children develop a deep understanding of their emotions, strengths, and areas for growth. Using The Zones of Regulation throughout school, we encourage children to recognise and manage their feelings effectively, fostering resilience and empathy.
Building Positive Relationships: We recognise the importance of healthy relationships in personal development. Our curriculum focuses on teaching children essential communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills, enabling them to form positive connections with their peers and adults. Poor behaviour choices are managed through our positive Behaviour Policy which takes a two-pronged approach- children must reflect and be accountable for poor choices but pastoral support is also considered at each point of our behaviour ladder.
Encouraging Respect and Tolerance: We foster an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and respected. Through lessons and assemblies, we promote understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of diversity, helping children develop empathy and tolerance towards others.
Developing Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: We aim to cultivate curious, creative, and independent thinkers. Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to explore, question, and solve problems, developing their analytical, reasoning, and decision-making abilities.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: We prioritise the physical well-being of our students. Through physical education, outdoor activities, and lessons on nutrition and well-being, we encourage children to lead active and healthy lifestyles, fostering habits that will support their long-term health and happiness.
Instilling Values and Ethics: We believe in the importance of moral development. Our curriculum emphasises the exploration of ethical principles, virtues, and responsibilities, guiding children to make thoughtful and principled decisions in their lives.
Fostering Growth Mindset and Resilience: We encourage a growth mindset, where children understand that intelligence and abilities can be developed through effort and perseverance. Through challenges, setbacks, and reflection, we support children in developing resilience, grit, and a positive attitude towards learning.
Digital Literacy and Online Safety: Provide guidance on responsible and safe use of technology. Foster digital literacy skills to navigate online environments positively.
